Coming Soon...

A new set for OUTV productions is to arrive shortly at Gaylord Hall. This rather large video production tool (made of wood & steel) will allow students to present OU Nightly, OUr Sportspad and other studio-produced shows against a more realistic backdrop. Prior to the student newscast moving from Copeland Hall to Gaylord Hall, newscasts were produced in a set donated by a Tulsa TV station.
Over 50 broadcast journalism & broadcast-electronic media students work on OU Nightly & OUr Sportspad on a weekly basis during the spring & fall semesters.
We'll be posting pictures (& maybe some video) of the set, lighting, and treatments as soon as possible.

Video Production Students Tour TV Truck
Students from Lynn Franklin's Intro to Video Production course recently took a tour of an HD video production truck. This mobile studio was in Norman to telecast the OU-Kansas football game. During these games up to 22 ESPN Sports personnel will work in just one of three units assigned to a game. Students had the opportunity to ask questions of producers, directors, playback, audio, and other ESPN staffers.
Trucks of this kind work year round to create television content for NCAA sports, NASCAR, NBA, NFL and a host of other events.
Similarly, OU B&EM students have a unique opportunity to see professionals work due to their presence on the OU campus for a variety of sporting events. Some students actually worked during the game in paid positions for ESPN.
During a football game like OU v. Kansas, ESPN will employ 40-50 personnel for the one-day shoot. Prior to the event, personnel will set up cameras, FAX the production unit and all equipment, ingest content to be used during the on-air portion of the production, and create certain background features.

OU Student Creates Videos for ESPN The Mag
OU Broadcast & Electronic Media graduate student, Alex Shumate is now producing for ESPN, The Mag.com. Shumate auditioned for the spot along with a host of other college students and got his shot at producing weekly videos for ESPN The Mag.com.Shumate's own sense of humor and distinct video style make each video unique and funny. Looking at Sooner football fans and their traditions makes for interesting web video and some of them are hilarious! My favorite is 'Norman to Seattle', check this link http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=3583383 by clicking on the photo in this post. Be prepared though to see a group of Sooner fans who just can't let it go...... Good luck to Shumate and his Sooner Nation faithful.
