Students from Lynn Franklin's Intro to Video Production course recently took a tour of an HD video production truck. This mobile studio was in Norman to telecast the OU-Kansas football game. During these games up to 22 ESPN Sports personnel will work in just one of three units assigned to a game. Students had the opportunity to ask questions of producers, directors, playback, audio, and other ESPN staffers.
Trucks of this kind work year round to create television content for NCAA sports, NASCAR, NBA, NFL and a host of other events.
Similarly, OU B&EM students have a unique opportunity to see professionals work due to their presence on the OU campus for a variety of sporting events. Some students actually worked during the game in paid positions for ESPN.
During a football game like OU v. Kansas, ESPN will employ 40-50 personnel for the one-day shoot. Prior to the event, personnel will set up cameras, FAX the production unit and all equipment, ingest content to be used during the on-air portion of the production, and create certain background features.
